Sport is a vital part of childhood. We all remember the memories of making slip ’n slides in the backyard, jumping on the trampoline, and racing our friends and family down the street. But now, with the rise of devices, streaming platforms, and video games, instead of running around in real life, kids are virtually running instead. Although they are still having fun, they are missing out on developing muscle strength, coordination, and, most importantly, confidence.

By enrolling our little ones in sport, we encourage them to become both mentally and physically strong, helping to foster confidence from a young age. There are so many aspects of girls’ sport that contribute to building confidence and resilience.
Through sport, whether it’s dance, tennis, soccer, gymnastics, or anything in between, girls are constantly meeting new people and making new friends. Being introduced to new environments and conversations helps them develop important social skills. It also allows them to realise that everyone has their own insecurities and awkward moments, helping them feel more comfortable and confident in their own skin.
The lessons and failures experienced through sport teach girls resilience and perseverance. They learn to keep going through rain, hail, or shine. By being exposed to challenges and setbacks, sporty girls discover that the biggest goals are achieved through persistence and learning from failure.
“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” – Winston Churchill
Sporting games, competitions, and matches place girls in high pressure situations that push them outside their comfort zones. These are often the moments that matter most. If they succeed, they gain confidence in their abilities. If they don’t, they learn to be courageous enough to keep trying again.
Through sport, girls develop idols, goals, and dreams. These aspirations inspire them to strive to be their very best, to win that game, land that skill, complete the extra rep, or even one day compete at the Olympics. Sport teaches commitment, healthy habits, fitness, sportsmanship, confidence, discipline… the list goes on.
Altogether, sport plays a critical role in childhood, and at Chasing Oso we want to inspire girls to strive for health, happiness, and confidence. We want to help raise fierce, empowered girls who believe in themselves and are ready to conquer their biggest goals.
